Saying YES Was The Best Thing I Ever Did
I have a new outlook on life. I view my life as a journey, an extended experiment that will enable me to learn more about myself. It’s the kind of experiment that will push me to do new things and put myself out there. To say YES to ideas that feel right instead of bottling them up for fear of being seen.
How did I get here, you ask? Eighteen years of reading self-help books, meditation, prayer, journaling, self-reflection, yoga, travel, LIFE! There’s no simple answer. It’s a series of knots in a string that have taught me valuable life lessons through the hard times and happy times.
I spent so much of my childhood and early adult years trying to do the right things with my career and life. Trying not to make any mistakes and following a path that would lead me to success. Less risk, more reward, and more security - that was my motto. Now that I look back on it, I wish I had arrived at my current destination much sooner.

When I say I don’t care what anyone thinks, what I mean is I am making career and life decisions based on my core beliefs and values. My choices are rooted in who I am and what I believe, not based on what society has taught me to believe. Also, I like to remind myself that the chances of people sitting around and analyzing or judging my decisions are very low. And for this reason, I release myself from overthinking.
How did I connect to my core beliefs and values so that I could care more about my own opinions versus those of the outside world? I did my IKIGAI.
IKIGAI
Ikigai is a Japanese concept that helps you determine your life’s purpose.
There are four quadrants in this diagram that, through self-reflection, help you determine What you love, What the world needs, What you can get paid for, and What you are good at.
I started doing my IKIGAI a few years ago, and it helped me quit my 12-year corporate marketing career to start my consulting business, and most recently I launched She’s Interesting! These were HUGE pivots in my life, and each one of them was worth it. If I can do it, so can you.
In this week's She’s Interesting podcast episode, I talk in-depth about transformative life decisions, shedding light on the power of embracing change, overcoming fear, and pursuing passion. I also dig into my favourite book, “Year of Yes," by renowned TV producer and screenwriter Shonda Rhimes and share my takeaways on how her book helped me say YES to myself.
If you need motivation or a quick 25-minute coaching sesh. This episode is for you!
