Are we all BFCM'd out?
Happy Saturday morning, friends! Grab your matcha, coffee, tea, and a blanket and let’s talk.
It’s BFCM (Black Friday Cyber Monday) weekend, and I have to be honest with y’all, I’m not feeling the same buzz of excitement as in previous years. I’ve done extensive research, aka asking different friends what they are buying this year, and most are keeping it simple and sticking to the basics.
Are we all BFCM’d out?
While the pandemic was a collectively tragic time for all of us, it was also a prime time for brands and businesses to scale and grow. Basically, it was time to get your bag! 💰 And many did. But if you look around today, the BFCM deals aren’t what they used to be, we’re seeing less innovation from brands, and I’m also hearing that sales did not exceed goals just yet…we’re only in Day 2 so we’ll see if things heat up. I’m sure by Sunday afternoon we’ll get an update from Shopify on the number of transactions across their ecosystem.
ANYWAYS, I am getting too into the weeds. For those who don’t know I worked at Shopify for two-and-a-half years, and I deeply care about the success of startup businesses and the mom-and-pop shops doing their best to fulfill their dream. 🤩
This BFCM, I’ve taken a step back and revisited how I approach shopping to ensure the things I buy align with my goals and what I care actually about. No more buying random things or splurging on items I don’t need. Let’s all commit to using our spending power to make a difference in our lives and the lives of those we believe in!
Three Things You Can Do This BFCM to Not Overspend and Invest In What’s Important
1/ Investing in Personal Growth
Let’s stop acting like buying expensive bags and artifacts is an investment, that’s so 2021. The best investment you can make is in yourself. What skills do you need to help you upskill, make more money, start your business, or launch your side hustle?
Three online learning companies I recommend are:
Sign up for Growclass to learn all about growth marketing and how to use marketing to grow your business or be better at your job. Get 20% off an annual membership! Growclass students have increased their salaries by over $27K. Now that’s a good investment!
Maven currently has 25% off 70 of their classes, which range from how to make better decisions to understanding AI and learning about financial statements. Now, doesn’t this feel more valuable than dropping $200 at Sephora?
Time to learn with a buddy or your partner, get two memberships for the price of one. That’s $240/year to access some incredible courses. One dinner with your partner can rack up a $250 bill in Toronto, so why not spend it on learning together instead?
2/ Make a List of Items You Actually Need
Create a list of your must-haves, the essentials, the things you’re going to need over the next 2-3 months and only buy those items. Stay strong, friends! BFCM will get even the strongest and most disciplined shoppers.
I only had one thing on my list this year, I’m very proud of myself!
Having a good hair dryer is so underrated. It can significantly reduce dryness, broken ends, and overall damage. This is totally worth the spend.
3/ Support Women-Owned Businesses
Get 35% off your first month of vitamin subscriptions and 15% off tests.
If you’re trying to conceive or even just thinking about it, it’s important to prep your body, and if you have a partner, theirs too. Bird&Be supplements are developed by fertility doctors and include all the key nutrients you need in one easy package, including antioxidants that support egg and sperm quality.

I am the co-owner of chelle body and this BFCM, we’re giving 50% OFF all of our bodycare products and tools, no code needed at checkout. This is a “start the car moment.” I highly recommend the silicone patches to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, as well as our exfoliation kit that will get rid of all your dry skin this winter. It’s kept me smooth like butter all year round.
As many of you know, I use the Ghlee lip balms religiously and I’m excited to share that they’re 30% off for BFCM. They’re made with natural and clean Ghlee, mango seed butter, and vitamin E.
Thanks for sticking around and joining me this weekend! If you love the newsletter share it with your friends and help them stay interested.
